Tinubu to Mutfwang: Address Root Cause of Age-long Crisis behind Plateau Killings

President Bola Tinubu has asked Caleb Mutfwang, governor of Plateau, to address the “age-long” communal issues connected to killings in the state.

The president attributed the ongoing violent attacks in Plateau to the “misunderstandings between different ethnic and religious groups”.

In the early hours of Monday, at least 25 people were killed after gunmen invaded Kimakpa village in Miango district under Bassa LGA.

The latest incident adds to the growing cases of violent attacks across different communities in Plateau.

!– thecable.ng/ads/www/delivery/asyncjs.php”> On April 2, gunmen killed many residents in five communities in Bokkos and Mangu LGAs, leaving several houses destroyed.

More than 50 bodies were reportedly recovered in the wake of the attack.

A statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, presidential media aide, said Tinubu expressed concerns over the need to address the “underlying issues” of the killings in the state.

thecable.ng/ads/www/delivery/asyncjs.php”> According to the statement, Tinubu said the federal government is committed to working with Mutfwang to promote social cohesion necessary to resolve the crisis in the state.

The president said he has ordered security agencies to investigate the attacks and those responsible.

“The ongoing violence between communities in Plateau State, rooted in misunderstandings between different ethnic and religious groups, must cease,” the statement reads.

“I have instructed security agencies to thoroughly investigate this crisis and identify those responsible for orchestrating these violent acts. We cannot allow this devastation and the tit-for-tat attacks to continue. Enough is enough.
